I have been working alongside Automation Fellow Mollie Claypool and her team at AUAR to create a tool for Designing Wikihouses in VR. The video below shows the first draft of the tool. As well as functioning as a basic design tool, the idea is to empower people embarking on building their own home to get a better feel of the various factors effecting their build including: cost, energy efficiency, labour required, quantity of material etc. By giving end users visibility of these metrics it is hoped that they will be able to make more informed decisions at the early stages of a project. The tool will be trialed in the Netherlands on a site for 20 wikihouses working with end users to design their own home.
