About Baby BSL

Where is the Bird? combines illustrations, videos, print and smartphone technology to inspire families to use BSL with their children in the home or on the move.

Search for ‘BabyBSL’ on the AppStore and GooglePlay to download our free app containing 20 signs and start learning BSL today.

When combined with the book, this smartphone app ‘wakes up’ the book’s hand-drawn illustrations, making them magically spring to life alongside video demonstrations of the BSL sign for that word. VIKA Books worked closely with the deaf community, including children from the Elmfield School for Deaf Children, VS1 Productions and the Deaf Studies Trust to create the work.

VIKA Books founder, Victoria Forrest, shared: “British Sign Language is a rich and complete language developed by the deaf community. We’re inviting all families, hearing and deaf alike, to play in sign language. Our hope is that every child has the opportunity to grow up learning simple BSL. A shared language would help hearing children communicate before they can speak, and bring deaf and hearing communities closer together.
